Calling Arkansans
I tried to get in touch with the Arkansas chapter of Hemo. Foundation, but have got no reply.
Is there anyone on this site in Arkansas that's involved?
We get occasional mailings about stuff going on in Fort Smith or Little Rock, but nothing in Northwest Arkansas. I'd love to help organize something if I could get in touch with the right people!

Glad to find BloodBrothers...
My 7 year old son Eli has Mild Hemophilia A - Factor VIII. We had our first major episode just last December. I guess we were pretty lucky to make it 7 years. He and his cousin were jumping on the bed, and Eli fell and hit his head on the radiator. He came out of the room and told us about it, but said it wasn't bad and he felt fine, so we went on our merry way. 48 hours later, he started to look like Gumby, and 72 hours later we had him admitted to the hospital where he stayed for 4 days while… Continue

- I am 47 years young and married with 2 children. Our kids are 19 yr. old son & 17 yr. old daughter. I was born with severe hemo-B in the good ol' days. Had lots of joint bleeds early in life which damaged both ankles, both knees, and both elbows. And both hips too. I have lived in Iowa & Arizona also. I have been a regular at several HTC's over the years. I live exactly 210 miles from the Little Rock HTC and 210 from the Kansas City HTC. I went to the Arkansas HTC from !992 to 2004 & the K.C. HTC from 2005 to present. I like the K.C. HTC much better. Their nurse practitioner is the greatest. The K.C. HTC Team all come down to Springfeild, MO for outreach clinics. That's where I see them each year for my comprehensive clinic. I only had to go the K.C. HTC in Kansas City for my first appointment 4 years ago.
We should have a BBQ together sometime since we live so close.

and the first thing you should ask about since it's fast approaching is Summer Camp! Your son is old enough to go there & meet other kids with all forms of bleeding disorders-- and he will learn about his hemophilia first hand, and how to infuse himself if he so desires. They oftentimes have camps for siblings too-- so they can understand better, and not feel so left out!
Also- don't worry so much about roughhousing! Relax!
Our twins rough house a ton- we just watch them and stop them from doing it on the wood floors and concrete...

Your Child Has Hemophlia!
I will never forget the day those words were spoken to me! All three times!I have three sons with severe hemophilia A. With no family history this was quite A shock to us! Our HTC provided us with a wealth of information. We also found wonderful resources at our local hemophilia chapter as well as the National Hemophilia Foundation. One thing that helped me was being able to talk to other moms who had kids with hemophilia. However 26 years ago that was a bit of a challenge! I am thrilled to be part of Hemophilia Moms so I can share my experiences with all of you!
I was so frustrated all those years ago when no one could answer a question that I felt was pretty straight forwar. " How big is a bruise before it is a bleed?" I always got the same answer..."you will know!" Now how was I going to know? I had never seen a "bleed"! I barely knew what hemophilia was! However, when my son had his first bleed....I knew it! When he had his first spontanious bleed....I knew! As mothers we need to trust ourselves. Take advatage of all the resources that are available! Twenty six years ago I would have loved to be able to talk to other moms in my shoes with the click of a mouse!
How did you feel when your son was diagnoised? How did you know your child had a bleed?
