Factor 8 Mutation

Thanks so much for the advice. I hadn't heard anything about the food ingredients, that is very interesting. I'll look into that too. We are planning to attend camp this summer also.

Factor 8 Mutation

We found out yesterday from the DNA test that my son's factor 8 mutation is the same as only 10 other families in the WORLD.  I didn't quite understand everything he was telling me, so I'm making a l…

I work for a dentist, I am new to hemophilia so I don't know what quite to expect with bleeding. I would recommend going to an oral surgeon though. A general dentist can do it and for less $$ but if…

Most importantly, is do they take your insurance? If you have a good one, you will meet the rep for your area and you should genuinely like this person. Do you feel like you can trust them to take ccare of your family or do you feel like a dollar si…

That is amazing he is not having to deal with tissue bleeds. But the joint bleeds are not any fun. The doctor will give you the usual how to care for your son spill that we all had growing up. Listen carefully. it makes a difference in how he does l…

Hi Tina, It's amazing how costly Hemophilia can be. I've never done any fundraisers specifically to raise money for medical costs, but I have had fundraisers for the Hemophilia Walk. I think it will definitely take some time, but fundraisers can hel…

medical bills

My son was diagnosed Hem A in October. I am wondering how to pay off these hospital bills already. We were almost at our maximum out of pocket just sept- dec. Now the new year they are starting all over again. I don't think they can be paid off within this year.

Any suggestions? Has anybody done any fundraisers that worked well?

To Prophy or not to Prophy

My son Evan was diagnosed with Hem. A about 1.5% in Oct. 09. He just turned 3 in Nov. He had ankle bleeds twice in both ankles, before the diagnosis. The urgent care told us they were sprains and splinted, cast, and walking boots. It took a long time for the last left ankle to heal, which led to the Hem. diagnosis.

Then in Nov. he got another bleed in the right ankle (which hadn't bled sinceApril, 7mo.) He got his 1st factor dose and the swellling subsided in 3 days or so. Then in mid Dec. it s… Continue

Hi Tina,

Sorry I deleted your blog post re: homecare selection. There are several representatives from various homecare companies on this site, and I wanted to avoid people marketing their various companies. However, your question is a great one. Certainly there are many people on the site who could share their preferences with you in a more private setting.

No hard feelings. Thanks for being a member on here!!

I guess your right, he'll only know this type of living. He does well really we don't have too many issues, but he's not yet 2. So we'll see. I just wish we knew really what level he was. We've had testing say 5% all the way up to 11%.
I'm still working on ideas about the toddler bed. BUt something has to change.
I attribute my good luck in the early diagnosis to a great doctor. He even had an idea as to what our son had and sent us to the appropriate doctor to check it all out.

With eyes closed ;)!Body language / Consciência corporal: sentir os pezinhos pisando firme

SINCE BRUNO’S first visit 2 years and a half ago at our Hemophilia Center, I had participated with the young parents in the process of raising their first child with severe hemophilia A. Prevention of over protection, early self awareness, talking to the child even when very little about how to climb and getting down of [...]

Your Child Has Hemophlia!

I will never forget the day those words were spoken to me! All three times!

I have three sons with severe hemophilia A. With no family history this was quite A shock to us! Our HTC provided us with a wealth of information. We also found wonderful resources at our local hemophilia chapter as well as the National Hemophilia Foundation. One thing that helped me was being able to talk to other moms who had kids with hemophilia. However 26 years ago that was a bit of a challenge! I am thrilled to be part of Hemophilia Moms so I can share my experiences with all of you!

I was so frustrated all those years ago when no one could answer a question that I felt was pretty straight forwar. " How big is a bruise before it is a bleed?" I always got the same answer..."you will know!" Now how was I going to know? I had never seen a "bleed"! I barely knew what hemophilia was! However, when my son had his first bleed....I knew it! When he had his first spontanious bleed....I knew! As mothers we need to trust ourselves. Take advatage of all the resources that are available! Twenty six years ago I would have loved to be able to talk to other moms in my shoes with the click of a mouse!

How did you feel when your son was diagnoised? How did you know your child had a bleed?

Make it a great day!
Lori
